The Hoola Fit Classroom
As you step into the Hoola-Fit classroom be prepared to let your stress and anxiety go for the next sixty minutes. In the beginning of Hoola-fit classes we participate in movement meditation through gentle stretching with hula hoops. We become conscious of our breath and our bodies through repeated sequences of movement intended to warm our bodies. Some benefits of movement meditation are reduced levels of stress and anxiety, reduction of physical pain, increased concentration, enhances creativity, and opens mind to new ideas.
The foundational movement of hoola-fit is waist hooping, therefore we waist hoop in part of every class. If you cannot waist hoop, we will provide instruction on correct hoop size for your body as well as tips and tricks to help achieve this. Plus, waist hooping has so many benefits of waist hooping you will want to learn! Some of the benefits of waist hooping stem from keeping that hoop spinning. This helps the body to contract the abdominal and gluteal muscles while strengthening and toning the core muscles. A strong core plays a key role in posture and balance!
Hula hooping is considered a low-impact activity making it an ideal fitness option for those with joint conditions such as arthritis. The rhythmic and genital motion of the hoop allows the joints to loosen (become more relaxed), improving joint flexibility and in turn increasing range of motion. Hoola-Fit is more than a fitness activity, it is also fun. Each week, in class we add to your catalog of hoop tricks finding that balance between understanding mentally what is required for a hoop tick and making the body perform the skill, allowing the brain and body to work together building coordination skills. If you are looking to start hula hoop dancing, you don’t have to flow alone! Hoola-fit classes are a great place to meet other members of the hoop dance community and explore your flow style. Classes are currently offered Wednesday nights at 7pm in the Yoga at Essential Energies. Sign-up for classes here!
